Sunday, July 7, 2013 @ 12:42 PM <ザナルカンドにて>は私の心で一番大切な所を占めている。私は八歳の時、毎日兄でFFXをプレイするのをじっと見た。本当に素敵なメモリーだ。 - At Zanarkand (or To Zanarkand) is a truly magical piece. It reminds me of the biggest struggle I had when I was a kid. It reminds me of my childhood, it reminds me of the times my brothers and I spent together, and it reminds me of how carefree life was. I remember running to my brother's room whenever I heard To Zanarkand because it meant that my brother was going to play FFX (To Zanarkand was the opening theme), and I loved watching my brothers play PS/PS2 games. I still love to watch them play PS3 games, even though they hardly do anymore because they're busy with their work and their own families. When I was 8, my eldest brother passed me two sets of piano scores and told me to learn how to play the pieces myself. They were the scores to To Zanarkand and Tina (from FFVI). I remember hating these two pieces so much because my fingers were simply too short for the pieces, and my technique simply wasn't there yet. My eldest brother would ask me to keep practising, and I always felt impatient and angry playing them. The music I created then, undoubtedly, was atrocious. Needless to say, it was the toughest challenge I faced when I was a child. However, I did not start playing them properly until I was 13, which was when I quit learning the piano. It was after I quit that I realised how much I loved the piano, and thus, I started practising a lot more in my free time. I shifted my focus from technique to emotions. I started reading up on the background of the pieces that I played. I began to interpret piano pieces in my own way. Now, 9 years later, I still haven't perfected To Zanarkand, but I'm happy for how much I have moved ahead since the day my brother passed me the piano scores. "Listen to my story. This may be our last chance." - Tidus (FFX) |
